Part 1 of 4 in "KCOM/KC/Karoo"

  1. KCOM/KC/Karoo
  2. Lightstream
  3. Useless Email Addresses
  4. Spam Emails And Secret Price Rise

I’m not being funny but because I live in the surrounding areas of Hull I can only get one wired internet connection and that honour goes to the company currently called KCOM. I say currently because this company is that crap they insist on changing their name so people can’t associated the awful reviews with them.

Customer: “KC have such crap service”
KCOM: “Who are KC? We are KCOM”

Or:

Customer: “I wish Karoo was better”
KCOM: “Hello you’re through to KCOM”

One thing I can’t fault them with is their customer service. I phoned them up once after my internet kept cutting out and in all fairness to them they did manage to stop it from cutting out every minute to now once every 2-3 hours so you know progress. On the same call though there was something that did infuriate me a bit.

(After taking all my details and looking at my account)
Me: “My internet keeps cutting out.”
Operative: “Yes I can see it has, it’s been doing it a lot hasn’t it…..”

Are you kidding me?? You can see it’s been happening yet you couldn’t fix it before I phoned up after having useless connection. However now I seem to get a nearly stable connection getting about 6-8Mbps.
Which actually leads me on to my next point. Yes I know that 6-8 isn’t awful but when I use my 4G on my O2 mobile I can get 12-15Mbps at home and then between 50-60Mbps else where it makes you wonder what on earth are KCOM actually doing. I mean for that sort of useless internet you’d expect the price to match it, you’d be wrong.

We are charged for a premium product and all we get is poor in comparison. Which is in fact my next point, the price. I pay £40.99 you’d think for this price I would get fibre optic, unlimited including a TV package – WRONG! For £45 from virgin you can get unlimited downloads, up to 50Mbps download speed, TV package and a call package.
I get 8Mbps, 250Gb download, no TV package but I do get a landline (yay). Which I don’t use because I have unlimited calls on my mobile so there’s literally no point in that part.

Look on the bright side though Graham, they’re getting fibre optic everywhere that KC covers…. It’s only taking them about 3 years, and still costs an absolute fortune.  By that point there will probably be a new technology that’s going to be better and KCOM will go, ohh we now offer this new tech, £100 a month for the first month then £250 thereafter. This is the cheapest around for this technology. YES BECAUSE THE REST OF THE COUNTRY ARE STILL PERFECTING FIBRE NOT WASTING TIME TRYING TO GET MORE MONEY FOR SOMETHING YOU’VE NOT EVEN TESTED! Sort out everyone’s internet before you try new things!!

Now, I’ve written this and posted (if it actually gets posted with my crap internet) this on KCOM internet lets see if I still have my internet after its been up for a while. There again I might keep my internet and KCOM just change there name to Hull Internet to avoid associating this review with them!

And to all those who say there are wireless companies available. I am aware I’ve done my research, but they all use the underlying KC cables so if they go down the internet will still go down, and most of them can’t even beam internet to where I actually am.

Keep an eye out for KC rant 2, the chances are high it ill come sooner rather than later 😉

Rant Over!
